GET UN-THIRSTY: It’s a Challenge!

I teach 17 classes a week, Cycling, intenSati, GETFIERCE Strength, Core…I’m thirsty!

As we get deeper into winter and the temperature gets colder I’m finding it more challenging to choose water. I’ve been happily reaching for my hot (1/2 caff) coffee every morning and while that’s not gonna stop (at least while the temp is in the single digits) I am committing to counteracting its effects.

Our bodies are made up on 75% water. It’s what I preach at the end of all my classes, “rehydrate, drink lots of water”, blah blah blah. It’s easy to tune me out, I tune myself out, not no mo’! It’s time to GET un-THIRSTY and get in all the water.

I read this awesome article about the benefits of hydration by Dr. Batmanghelidj. I’ve read a bunch of Dr. “Batman’s” info before, but this time it really hit home, because I’M not drinking enough. There are countless and VERY pricey solutions to our health issues. One of the easiest fixes and Dr. B might say, ‘cures’, is water. The best part is it’s FREE!

Are you dehydrated? Mild to moderate dehydration is likely to cause:

  • Dry, sticky mouth
  • Sleepiness or tiredness
  • Thirst
  • Decreased urine output
  • Few or no tears when crying
  • Dry skin
  • Headache
  • Constipation
  • Dizziness or lightheadedness
If you’re experiencing any of the above give it a whirl! What do you have to lose (besides weight)?. Dehydration is often mistaken for hunger and drives us to reach for snacks as opposed to a glass…BONUS!

I’m starting a 60 day challenge and would love you to join me. The challenge is drinking 2 liters of water each day. Be focused and mindful about the amount of water you’re taking in. Set aside a liter bottle and fill it in the morning. Drink it all the way down and then refill, make sure it’s gone before bed to ensure you’ve hit your mark.

  3. Water! I know you have been recommending us to have lots and lots of water, mainly for the numerous benefits that water provides – based on the article and 60-day challenge you gave us. My question here pertains to what type of water would you recommend for drinking and efficient re-hydration of cells. A lot of times I simply don’t like drinking water from the tap and I know that it isn’t too expensive to buy a water filter of some sort. Nonetheless, I find myself tending to more often than not drinking bottled water (especially Smart Water). I was wondering if you had any recommendations on which type of water you would normally have, and if there are thoughts on drinking bottled water vs. tap water (not that I expect and specific product endorsement like for Vitamin Water or Smart Water), but I was just curious on your take about the different kinds of water out there.
