Drink It In: It’s a Challenge!

What It Is?

Thursdays on the GETFIERCE TRAINING page are all about challenging ourselves. These challenges are meant to build ourselves up, to feel good, to be strong and to grow! This week’s challenge is all about giving our bodies what they need.

The Game

We’ve played this one before in Week 1 and it Week 11. Now we’re in 22 and it’s time to do it again. It’s hot out, our bodies are letting go of more water than in the cooler months, so we need to stay focused on keeping properly hydrated to maintain our body’s proper function.

For Me

I teach 17 classes a week, Cycling, intenSati, GETFIERCE Strength, Core…I’m thirsty! As summer begins today the sumer gets hotter and hotter (100 degrees in NYC today),  I’m trying to stay as hydrated as possible with this hot hot heat, 3 liters and counting today.

I read this awesome article about the benefits of hydration by Dr. Batmanghelidj. I’ve read a bunch of Dr. “Batman’s” info before, but this one it really hit home every time I read it. With all of my drinking I’M still not drinking enough. There are countless and VERY pricey solutions to our health issues, but one of the easiest fixes and Dr. B might say, ‘cures’, is water. The best part is it’s FREE!

Are you dehydrated? Mild to moderate dehydration is likely to cause:

  • Dry, sticky mouth
  • Sleepiness or tiredness
  • Thirst
  • Decreased urine output
  • Few or no tears when crying
  • Dry skin
  • Headache
  • Constipation
  • Dizziness or lightheadedness
If you’re experiencing any of the above give it a whirl! What do you have to lose (besides weight)?. Dehydration is often mistaken for hunger and drives us to reach for snacks as opposed to a glass…BONUS!

I’m starting a 60 day challenge and would love you to join me. The challenge is drinking at least 2 liters of water each day. Be focused and mindful about the amount of water you’re taking in. Set aside a liter bottle and fill it in the morning. Drink it all the way down and then refill, make sure it’s gone before bed to ensure you’ve hit your mark.
