Try It: It’s a Challenge!

What It Is?

Thursdays on the GETFIERCE TRAINING page are all about challenging ourselves. These challenges are meant to build ourselves up, to feel good, to be strong and to grow! This week’s challenge is all about doing something different.

Just Try It!

If you read my post yesterday you know that last night I Worked It Out with my mentor, Patricia Moreno, and her personal trainer, Pedro Carriedo. It was a great workout and pushed me as a student to new levels. I was drenched with sweat, pushed through the pain and left feeling totally spent and AWESOME. I (yet again) realized that when we reach outside of our own comfort zones that we arrive at the place when we’re able to take it to the next level to see what we’re “really” made of.

The Challenge

For the next 7 days I want you to try something new. It doesn’t need to be major, just something (i.e. take a new route to work, try a new coffee/tea shop in the am, take a different class or instructor, add a different ingredient to your salad..whatever). This will begin to open us up to trying new things and WHO KNOWS…we just might be Mikey and Like It!

For ME

I LOVE LOVE LOVE to dance! About 2 years ago I took my very first dance! WHAT? I know! Don’t get me wrong, I tend to think I “kill it” on the dance floor, but it’s a whole ‘nother ball game when you’re being taught choreography. (Wait, full disclosure I did take one dance class at Boston Ballet when I was 6, but hated the mauve leotard I was forced to wear and refused to go back.)

I had heard my girl, Erika Shannon, taught a bad ass Hip Hop class and so I chose her to pop my dance class cherry. I was terrified, but Erika is a friend and mentor to me so it was perfect. I loved class! It felt like I was high. I was dancing, sweating, moving my body, shakin’ my ass and it felt so good. I then tried Patricia Moreno’s dance class which was much more lyrical at the time. I was a TOTAL fish out of water, all the spinning, kick ball changes and shuffles…I was LOST! I stuck with it, though and today I take class regularly…in the FRONT ROW!

I love the way dance makes me feel, but I’m terrified to try new instructors! I don’t want to look dumb or feel lost in the movement, I want to be the best, I like to be popular and know all the other “kids” in class…I revert back to a 3rd grader…you know what comes next…NOT NO MO’! I’m committing to taking NEW dance teachers and giving it a full go! This is what I’m committed to trying this week. What will YOU do?
