This is MINE

It’s “funny” no matter how long it’s been people still either don’t know or don’t believe that I was ever obese…OH I WAS! I’m a F.F.K., former fat kid.  We are all W.I.P.s (works in progress) and my goal, as I think everyones should be, is to get better and smarter every single day. Here it is again check out my story (with pics) below! It IS possible…whatever you want you can make happen!


It all started with me. I had all the information I needed to get myself into a state of health and fitness, but until I put it all into action; eating healthfully, working out, creating a career I love, appreciating my family, friends, relationships, all of it, I wasn’t ready.

I was in college majoring in athletic training  Learning about being healthy, surrounded by athletes every day I was literally the picture of un-health. I smoked a pack of cigarettes a day, ate more than I even like to recall now (my favorite meal: a large chicken parmesan sub on garlic bread and french fries…that was one meal!) and let’s just say my workouts were comprised of walking to and from classes. All of these elements together were no ideal and over my time in college

I had gained over 50 lbs! I’m 5’1″ and was weighing in at over 180 lbs the day I graduated from college. I vowed from that moment that I was going to change my life, I was going to get healthy. I knew what I needed to do to lose the weight, but I hadn’t taken any action to get to that place. My first step was to change my eating habits. I began counting my calories and eating foods that were low in calories, mainly fruits and veggies and whole grain bread, lots of tuna and low fat substitutes (it was 2000, it was the fad at the time). Over the next 3 months I began adding in 2 hour cardio/weight training workouts and lost about 35 lbs. I held my weight at about 140-5 lbs for the next 5 or 6 years.

In 2007 I began taking a group exercise class called intenSati. This class revolutionized my life. I lost another 20 lbs, quit my job, got certified as a trainer and holistic health coach…my world became and now is what I had wanted it for so long to be. I am the picture of health. I live how I want to live, feel amazing and now I want to share it with YOU! This is the best part. I’m not going to pretend to be all high and mighty. I’m still on my journey, getting healthier and happier.

The results, I am are getting stronger, more confident each day. I truly am getting better, WAY better, with age and I hope you’ll join me in GETTIN’ FIERCE!

  1. I’ve had four children, and had to lose weight after each one. (I’m not one of those girls who gains 20lbs in a pregnancy. I gain 60.) When my third child was a year old, I weighed 175lbs. (I’m 5’8″) I decided to do something about it. I joined Weight Watchers with some friends, and started taking spin classes and Pilates. I lost 40 lbs and looked great! I kept it off for 6 years… then I got pregnant again. Now my youngest is 6 months old, and I’m trying to lose the weight again. I’m about 20lbs from my goal.

    • YES! Tara, you’re a force! I love this post, it makes me SO happy. It’s a journey that you’re on and you should love every moment. Realizing that your body brought you 3…wait 4 amazing children! You, lady, are FIERCE! Those 20 lbs are coming off one day at a time. Are you back to spin and pilates? I’m sure you must be super busy with all the kids, but it’s 90% about what we put in our mouths, so even if you’re not it’s all good. Keep up the great work!!! xxxD
