BEST LIFE EVER!2/3s to GO!

2/3s to what? Well, I plan on being 105 years old, so I’m 1/3 of the way through my life (or so I have planned). I think about all the time I have left and I get REALLY excited! SO MUCH more to do…to experience. I want to be my BEST for the next 70 years, so I’m taking it to the nest level!

NOW I’m Cookin’ With Gas

In ELEVEN days I’m turning 35! I have ELEVEN “things” that I’m adding in that ,I feel, make ME a better person. I’m sharing one with YOU each day. Today is a really good one, for me…

#1 I will be making (most of) my meals at home. (75% is the #)

WHY:

  1. LOVE: I love to cook, it relaxes me and makes me feel accomplished, like I’ve given myself a very special gift. I have a crazy schedule, but it is actually conducive to being able to cook for myself IF (GIANT IF) I make time.
  2. KNOWING: I’ll know exactly what’s in the food I’m putting into my body. Even when we eat out and order “healthfully” we are not in control of what goes into our food. This way I will ensure that all that goes into what I eat is GOOD for me, no stray butter from the grill or extra sodium in my food!
  3. VEG/HEALTH: I tend to use only veggies when I cook for myself. It’s easy and there’s very little “mess”. I can chop everything on Sunday and use it in a variety of ways throughout the week. Mostly veggie meals equals not only a much lower calorie meals, but also much healthier (or how I do it, anyway…no tempura here!)
  4. $$$: I live in NYC and it’s EASY to get healthy food on the go. I get a green juice in the morning (which I will continue to do), but there’s Whole Foods, organic markets, vegan and veggie restaurants on nearly every corner. So, not only does it get easy to eat out, but it also get expensive! Then when I’m in there I tend to grab a “little something extra”. Not no’ mo’! Keepin’ in at home!

DAY 1 and DONE. 75% of my meals will be prepped and eaten at home. How do you feel about this? Is this doable for you? What percentage of your meals do you currently make at home and would you be game to upping that number to? Let me know!

PS – I LOVE my birthday. I love attention and gifts and phone calls and messages…duh, I’m a fitness instructor, I love being the center of attention! I want to FEEL my best on this day and every day going forward. 105 HERE I COME, lookin’ and feelin’ FIERCER than ever! WE ARE FIERCE!

It’s a Two-Fer: Tune in Young Grasshopper

I teach an amazing class called intenSati. It’s a cardio workout, but the best part and why it’s different is that along with all the jumping jacks and heel drives you are shouting out positive affirmations. Sounds a little crazy, but it has amazing effects not only on the body, but the mind too! I truly believe in positivity…that what you think about you bring about. It’s the Field of Dreams of thought if you will, “if you build it they will come.” I read A LOT about the benefits of positive thinking, I practice it, I really live in the space of seeing the good in everything…or so I thought!

The Teacher Becomes the Student

I was in class last week and one of my students asked me how my training is going (I’m running the NYC 1/2 Marathon on March 17th). I looked at him, rolled my eyes and said, “Ugh, I hate running!” Immediately one of my other students in class turned, looked right at me and said, “OF COURSE YOU DO! If you start out saying you hate running you’re gonna hate it.” DAMN!…I know that! I was shocked by myself and so pissed, “Don’t throw my words at me!” I said. I was kidding, but a little shocked at ME! I know that if I start out hating something I will, but why was I not putting my positivity it into practice? I got lazy, not physically, but mentally for sure. Running is challenging for me, so I gave into  No mo’!

Makin’ a Change

I know if I think something’s gonna suck it will. It’s time to get in the game my friends. I’m NOW lovin’ the process of running. I’m loving the feeling of being DONE with a run. I’m loving the way my body feels challenged and I’m LOVING the challenge of staying of the game of thinking good thoughts. It’s like a reawakening to be IN instead of fighting against it. I know I’ve gotta do it so I might as well enjoy it! Now is the time to see the bright side.

Did You Forget Just How FIERCE You ARE?

So yesterday I was reading the blog of my client, friend and amazing body confidence coach, Alison Leipzig. I get her updates emailed to me (which is great and you can do that with mine as well if you enter your email in the top right corner, ahem, jus’ sayin). As I began scrolling down the email I was reading the quote to the left. I thought to myself, “Oooh, this is good!” Then I read the byline…I WROTE THAT! I was shocked. I had written my “True Confession Story” (CLICK THAT…it’s GOOD STUFF) for Alison’s blog way back in 2012 not THAT long ago, but still some time has passed. When I was reading my quote I kept thinking about how I really felt each word, I agreed with it and wanted to shout out, “YES!” Having this experience made me think.

YOU Know IT!

We already have within us all we need to know. To get where you desire there is nothing you are lacking. Grabbing that self help book is great, there are pieces in it that will resonate with you and that you may take action on, but you don’t NEED the book to be successful. The reason those self help tidbits resonate with you is because you already know that they’re “right” for YOU! They feel good to you because they’re already what you know and believe.

We’re Not Full of S#!T

So true…We’re not full of s#!t! We have tons of “good stuff” inside of us! There couldn’t be a more blatant example of this than me reading words I had already written, thinking that it was FIERCE. I have the answers, but SO DO YOU! We ALL already know what we need to live successful, happy & healthy lives.

What’s YOUR Cake?

I want you to think about what you want, your cake. NO, Crazy-Pants, I don’t mean real cake, I MEAN…what’s the thing you REALLY want? Is it Movie Love? Is it that super hot bod so that you run down the beach like Pam Anderson in her french cut Baywatch suit? Is it a redonkUlously large bank account? Whatever you want…that’s YOUR CAKE. Take a moment…figure it out and when you do…

Feel the feeling you get when you go to do something that keeps your from your CAKE. There are times when YES, it’s your day, you’ve “worked” for the distraction, you REALLY ARE going to enjoy it, BUT there are also times when you know that this distraction (drinking the martini, staying home instead of going on the date, not proactively getting your shit done or buying things on credit….) will make you feel like crap, but we do it anyway.

This feeling is your inner knowing. That feeling is YOU telling you “Fuc#!ng Stop It ” or “Totally Go For it”. Sometimes our voice is a little bitch just wanting to get her (or his) way and sometimes it’s FIERCE and keeps us strong…whatever the answer to that question is YOUR feeling will tell you.

My point in saying ALL this is simply to LISTEN to how truly FIERCE YOU ARE! You are a gift and there is only one of YOU! You have all of the answers you’ll ever need to know. I invite you that when you have a questions, take a moment, a breath and think, “How does THIS make me FEEL?” If the answer is FIERCE then GO GO GO!

Hey Man-GO!

Fill ‘er Up with Fruit!

I have to say that I do love me some mango. Ask my friends, roommates…I can’t get enough. Mangos are not only good for you they are totally satisfying (to me) and filling. They’re sweet and a great replacement sugary processed foods.

Mangos produce an alkaline response in the body which is fantastic in this world of stress we live in. Mangos also have a high amount of vitamin C, so think about that next time you’re grabbing your morning OJ.

Give It a Shot!

A cup of mango is only about 100 calories, so it’s a great way to snack in the summer. For all of my cocktail happy friends I LOVE a refreshing mango mojito in the summer sun. Take out the sugar and replace it with some freshly muddled mango and you have yourself one VERY tasty summer treat. Here’s how:

  • 1 shot Bacardi rum
  • 5 mint leaves
  • 1/4 cup mango
  • 1/5 cup fresh lime juice
  • seltzer water
  • ice

Muddle the mint and mango together add in the Bacardi and lime juice and shake with ice. Pour into a glass and top off with seltzer water…Wha-la…a fantastic sugar-free summer smile.

You kids know that I rarely promote me on here. I go typically go as far as giving my opinion on what I like, what I do, what my goals are and share openly. Today I’m straight pimpin’ ME! 5 Reasons to Meditate

Where to Start

The first time I ever tried to “meditate” it was about 4 years ago at a yoga workshop. I put it in quotes, because now that I know how meditating actually feels, 4 year ago resembled nothing of the sort. I had never sat still with my goal to “quiet the mind” as the instructor directed. I didn’t really even know what that meant. Thoughts kept racing through my head, “Am I doing this right? Are  my eyes suppose to be closed? My butt hurts. I wonder when lunch is? I wonder how long we’re going to sit here? I’m stressed.” Seriously, trying to quiet my mind seemed to make everything louder.

Eventually, I started to listen. After a few (more like 10ish) tries at meditation I started to get the hang of slowing my thoughts and became at ease with the quite sound of my breath. I found it enjoyable to breathe in and out focused on only that. Now, I try to meditate now a few times a week. Instead of stressing over it, I now treasure my moments of peace and quiet. Sometimes it’s easy to sit and focus on my breath or whatever topic I’m searching for clarity on, but sometimes it’s still challenging to slow down and just be. It takes practice and regardless of how calm my mind gets I’m so much clearer after my time in meditation. I’m grateful for my stick-to-it attitude on this one. Meditating brings me peace and calm when I’m most anxious and stressed.

Here Are 5 Reasons For YOU to Try

  2. Improve sleep
  3. Manage pain
  4. Live longer
  5. Enhance concentration

It’s worth a shot. If you feel discouraged at the start, stick to it. You’ll thank yourself for doing so.

Love What You Do

Do You…

Wake up in the morning psyched to get up and go to work? I’ve talked to a lot of people and sadly I have to say that not a lot of people answer, “yes” to that question. We spend at the BARE minimum 35 hours a week working. Not to mention the amount of time you spend traveling to and from work AND thinking about work…it’s A LOT of time!

Is there something in your life that you love to do? Have you ever thought, “Could I make _____ my career?” It’s a challenge, for sure, to take a risk and follow your dream, but it IS possible! So many people have followed their heart and made their passion their career! Think how awesome it would be to wake up everyday and do what you love to do!

My Story

I left my corporate gig 2 and 1/2 years ago to follow my dream of helping people to live healthful lifestyles. I didn’t think it through fully. I wasn’t sure how it would work out, but I took a leap of faith. I knew that it was possible that it wouldn’t work, but I stayed focused on my goal of helping others. I took it one day at a time committed to do what I had set out to do. Today I teach 18 classes a week, have an amazing clientele and wake up happier and happier each day.

You Can Do It!

Take a sec to think about what makes you happy. Can you add a little more of THAT into your life? It doesn’t need to be an entire career change necessarily, but try to add more of that thing into your life. It will not only make you smile, but will perhaps shift your perspective on what you give your time to.
